Greater Manchester Dementia Analysis 2011

Abstract

An analysis of 2011 acute inpatient data from SuS PbR Post Recon for patients registered in GM or attending an Acute in GM. The data has been segmented into "spells with a dementia diagnosis" and "other spells" and the two cohorts have been compared to estimate the effect of having a dementia diagnosis on the key performance indicators of length of stay and PbR tariff. It is very clear from this analysis that there is robust evidence that patients with a diagnosis of dementia stay about 5 days longer and have tariffs about £800 higher than other patients even when taking into account relative age, gender and admission type. Data is broken down into a variety of areas - including PCT, Provider & age level.
